Family & Home Life

Seth's nearby cousins have two small children that our baby will grow up with. Amongst our friends, we are also lucky to be in the middle of a "baby boom". Several are having children this year. We know play dates will not be in short supply! One of these couples owns a great farm in the Mendocino hills, which will be a wonderful place for our child to explore nature, from catching lizards to splashing in creeks and climbing old oak trees.

We live in a cute old Victorian house on a tree-lined street in Berkeley. Jerry (who has the green thumb) is especially fond of our front and back yards, where he has replaced cement with flower and vegetable beds. Jerry is working on a special garden and play area, perfect for a child to play and create in, even if it's a special mud pie baked to perfection in the sun.

Inside we're creating our nursery already, and on the walls you will find colorful paintings made by Seth's grandparents and mother. Seth's favorite room is our kitchen, where he can often be found making up recipes. A piano sits in our family room and Jerry looks forward to playing duets with our child one day. We have two cats and a small Boston Terrier, all of whom are gentle and friendly.

We live in a kid-friendly neighborhood, just blocks away from three parks. Our YMCA has daily play and learning activities. Seth grew up drawing and making sculpture, and Jerry studied art and design in college. We will give our child the opportunity to get their hands into finger-paint, clay and paper mache just like we did. We also live near many museums and theaters—exploring art and beauty will play a big part in our child's upbringing.
